ARCHIVAL COLLECTION


The documentation kept in the Bochnia Branch of the Archive covers the years 1486-2000 and presently numbers over 40 thousand archival units, that is about 670 metres of files divided into 256 archival funds. The files come from the area of the former Bochnia and Brzesko counties. Apart from parchment, paper documents and pre-modern books we also keep technical documentation e.g. of the Salt Mine in Bochnia from the 18th to 20th century, cartographic documentation from the 19th century, construction documentation from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and a library collection which numbers about 2 thousand books.

Among the most important and most often used files are:

  • town files, including those of Bochnia (1486-1945/1950/), Brzesko (1871-1952), Nowy Wi¶nicz (1616 and 1821-1933), Niepołomice (1867-1944);
  • commune files, including the files of Bochnia-Village Commune (1847-1954), Rzezawa (1861-1954), Szczepanów (1895-1954);
  • files of the state and special administration, including the files of State Repatriation Office (1945-1950), of County Council Committees (1950-1975), of City Council Committees (1950-1973), County Offices of Information and Propaganda (1945-1947), the files of City and County Courts (1863-1950);
  • files of the Salt Mine in Bochnia (1772-1951);
  • primary and secondary school files including the Bochnia Middle School since 1816
  • files of Roman Catholic and Jewish Registry Offices
